Obituary: Ruth Margaret Moyer, age 94, formerly of Whitney Point, NY, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 in Ellicott City, MD at Encore at Turf Valley Assisted Living Center where she had resided since August 2010. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Albert (Al) Moyer, her parents, Eugene and Edith Eldridge, her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Francis (Bus) Winchell, her sister, Frances Eldridge, Frances's daughter, Paula Sullivan, and her son, Norman Moyer. Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Glenda (Glenn) Milner and Sylvia Moyer, both of Ellicott City, MD. Her grandchildren are: Laura Kelly, Ormond Beach, FL, Kevin (Lee) Moyer, Sewell, NJ, Julie Milner, Ellicott City, MD, and Mark Milner, Miami Beach, FL. She also had 7 great grandchildren: Kiersten Cocuzza, Taylor (Ryan) Park, Cassandra Kelly, Christian Kelly, Donovan Moyer, Elizabeth (Conor) Delaney, and Shaun Gallagher. Ruth had 1 great-great-grandchild, Blake Delaney, and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth joined the Otselic Rebekah Lodge May 13, 1942. It later became the Yorkshire-Otselic Lodge. She was a member for over 70 years. She was a Past Noble Grand and Past District Deputy President for Broome County. Ruth was a member of the Johnson City Ladies Encampment Auxiliary #61 where she had held the office of Past Chief Matriarch. She was Past President of the Binghamton L.A.P.M. #13. Ruth joined the Whitney Point United Methodist Church on April 23, 1933. She sang in the choir for about 50 years. Ruth taught several different Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes and attended the adult Sunday School class. She also was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Society. Ruth was a member of the Northern Broome Golden Age Club since 1981 and served as the attendance secretary for many years. Ruth was a 4-H club leader for 15 years and was once selected as the Outstanding 4-H Leader in Broome County. In 1937, Ruth graduated in the first class from the then new school on Rt. 11. After graduation, she worked as a waitress at the Oakland Hotel and then a type setter at the Whitney Point Reporter. Once Ruth's children were in school, she worked as a teller at the First-City National Bank on Main Street and then as a secretary at Whitney Point Central School. She retired from that position in 1981. Ruth enjoyed visiting family and friends and several winter trips to Florida. She also enjoyed many bus trips with the Golden Age Club and with Whitney Point's own tour guide extraordinaire, Williamay Zeiter. She loved needlework and making small craft projects. Her favorite thing was "going out to eat". A memorial service will be held at the Whitney Point United Methodist Church, 7313 Collins St., Whitney Point, NY 13862 on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11 AM. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Whitney Point, NY at 10 AM, preceding the service. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church after the service and a light lunch will be served by the Women's Society.
