Retired Air Force Veteran William E. Dunn was born in Fall River, Mass., on March 1, 1939, and died at the age of 78 in hospice in Columbia, Md., on April 17, 2017. He was married to Jo Ann Foster of New Bedford, Mass., on October 12, 1963, until her death May 10, 2005. During their early military years, the Dunns were stationed first in Alabama, and then spent the next six years overseas in Japan and Germany. By the time they were stateside again, they had two daughters and a son. Bill spent the rest of his 20-year military career in San Antonio, retiring with the rank of Staff Sgt. But his service to the country wasn’t over. He spent the next two decades working civil service, eventually moving to Colorado Springs to track satellites for the Department of Defense. He retired after Jo Ann’s passing and moved to Maryland to be closer to his son’s family.

Bill was called Billy by his friends and co-workers, Pop by his son and Pop Pop by his grandchildren. Anyone who knew our father knew him as a fun-loving, gentle man who was devoted to his wife and loved his family. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was always smiling and had a wicked sense of humor that he used to keep his friends and co-workers in stitches. He was a great baker, loved his cats and his country music.

Billy was predeceased by his parents James E. Dunn and Yvonne Vallee Dunn of Fall River, Mass.; siblings Pauline Levesque, James Dunn, Richard Dunn, Robert Dunn and Lillian St. Pierre, all of Fall River.

Bill Dunn is survived by his sister Henriette Medeiros of Fall River, Mass., and his children: Barbie Dunn of San Antonio, Texas; Michelle Duncan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Christopher Dunn of Ellicott City, Md. He has three grandchildren – Colton, Malaina and Jake of Ellicott City, Md.; and a son-in-law William Duncan III of Colorado Springs and daughter-in-law Dawn Coleman Dunn ofEllicott City.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to pay it forward and asks that donations be made to Kindred Spirits, a social club for people with early stage memory loss, where Bill made many friends over the last few years. Please make checks payable to “Director of Finance” and mail to Kindred Spirits, Att: Judy Miller, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville, MD, 21723.

Maryland services for Bill Dunn will be on Saturday, April 22. He will be reunited with his beloved “Magic Lady” Jo Ann at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs and buried with full military honors.
