William Charles Griffin, devoted husband of Shirley Jane Griffin (nee Wick) and loving father of Kristine Griffin Seskunas (Vito), Terri Griffin Bidas (Andrew), and Kenneth Charles Griffin (Kathleen), passed peacefully on February 1, 2017 just days before his 95th birthday. Bill was born  in Baltimore, MD to the late Charles and Martha Griffin on February 12, 1922. His entire extended family loved him beyond words and insisted they remain by his side during the days and nights before his death.  They knew their last goodbye would be the hardest and celebrated with him, a life well lived.

Bill knew that the best things in life were the people he’d loved, the places he and Shirley had been and the memories they’d made along the way.  His family was enthralled to hear more about his service to our country aboard a PT boat during WWII, his basketball team at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, his “college experience” back when he attended the University of Maryland College Park, and his experiences as a Shriner at the Boumi Temple in Baltimore and Mason with Warren Lodge #51.

Bill was an environmental engineer with the Department of Natural Resources and recognized the need to protect Maryland’s local treasure-the Chesapeake Bay. His boundless energy enabled him to celebrate the rivers and tributaries with his children and grandchildren each weekend at the family’s shore house on Round Bay off the Severn River, with his beloved wife Shirley by his side.

Bill made the world a better place for his wife, family, friends, fellow Marylander’s and citizens of our great nation.  He will be missed beyond measure.

He is also survived by his grandchildren,  Adam Seskunas, Andrew Seskunas, Alexander Bidas, Benjamin Bidas, Natalie Griffin, Ryan Griffin and Allison Griffin; great-grandchild, Sophia Seskunas; sister, Thelma Griffin Menocher. Loved and admired by Dos Peck Seskunas, Yara Flinn Seskunas, Chelsea Miller, Kurt Tramantana and Sebastian Saez.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
