Obituary: Irene B. Michael, age 85, of Pittsburgh, PA died on November 25, 2012 surrounded by her family.??Irene was born of June 1, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA as one of two children. The daughter of Catherine and Frank Podlasek. Irene was a fabulous accordion player and played in clubs during wartime. She met her husband Tony (Anthony Joseph Michael) of Baltimore, MD after WWII at a mutual friend’s wedding in Pittsburg. They fell madly in love, and were married 9 months later, for 63 yrs. Irene left her home in Pittsburg and moved to Baltimore to begin her married life. She was always active in her church ministries where ever she resided. In Baltimore she took leadership roles in the St. Augustine and OLPH Mothers Club and sodality of the same school and churches. Later on, as her children were older she became a Welcome Wagon hostess for Welcome Wagon International and was awarded the top Welcome Wagon hostess in the country multiple times. She continued that career in Whitehouse Station, NJ and in “semi-"retirement in Cumming, GA. She became very active in her church community at Good Shepherd Catholic Church as an extraordinary minister and in welcoming new parishioners to the church community. Her exuberance for life was shown in her love of entertaining and cooking for friends and family. ?She is survived by her loving husband Anthony J. Michael of Cumming, GA. She was the devoted mother of Kathleen A. Dye of Hanover, MA, Deborah A. Bowen of Milton, GA, Suzanne J.Hoppe of Washington, NJ, and Anthony J. Michael Jr. of Norristown, PA. She was extremely proud of her 11 grandchildren, Ryan Michael Bruchey of Baltimore, MD, Christopher Michael Dye of Quincy, MA, Ashley A Dye of Chicago, IL, John Edward Bowen Jr. of Philadelphia, Megan Elizabeth Bowen of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Bowen of Milton, GA, Matthew C Hoppe and Michael C Hoppe of Washington, NJ, and Samantha l. Michael, Anthony Michael and David V. Michael, all of Norristown, PA. She also admired her son-in laws Christopher L. Dye of Hanover, MA, John E. Bowen of Milton, GA, Fred C. Hoppe of Washington, NJ. and daughter in law Linda A. Michael of Norristown, PA Funeral arrangements are being handled by Medford-Peden funeral home but the wake will be held at McDonald funeral home, Cumming, GA. Viewing will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 28 at 11a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church Cumming, GA. Irene's remains will be taken to Maryland. Friends and family are invited to her viewing at Witzke Funeral Home Olde Columbia Pike in Ellicott City, MD from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 30. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday December 1 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church Elkridge, MD at 10 a.m. Interment will be following the Mass at Meadowridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in support of St. Vincent DePaul.

   Patti Klausing Simmons  So sad to hear of Irene's death. I remember her 50th wedding celebration and hearing mom talk about how she and Tony met at mom and dad's wedding. A match made in heaven. Now mom has her friend in heaven and they are inseparable again.
